Celebrate 20 years of progress in the fight against breast cancer at the 20th annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run 5K & Survivors’ Walk on Saturday, October 21, benefiting the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
For two decades, the Huntsville community has joined together to flood the streets of downtown Huntsville pink at the annual Ribbon Run. Participants walk, run and fundraise to help provide cutting-edge technology for Huntsville Hospital Breast Center. Ribbon Run also invests in patient lives by providing Surviving and Thriving classes, so survivors have access to essential information and a powerful network of fellow survivors.
WAFF 48 news anchor Liz Hurley established the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund in 1999 following her own fight against breast cancer. Since then, it has provided more than $6.6 million in diagnostic equipment that detects cancer earlier and more accurately for Huntsville-area women. This is an amazing benefit for North Alabama that puts us on par with the top breast centers in the nation–and none of it would be possible without community support.
Over 4,500 participants have already registered for the 20th annual Ribbon Run, which is on track to be one of the biggest and best yet. This year’s theme is “Raise your Ribbon.” Every participant will be given a pink ribbon to raise as they run or walk in honor and memory of those affected by breast cancer.
Proceeds raised from the milestone celebration will purchase a new ultrasound machine and table with specialty mattress. This new, high-tech equipment will reduce wait times so patients have access to the diagnostic screenings they need, detecting breast cancers earlier and more accurately.
“This is my favorite day of the year,” Liz Hurley said. “It is the greatest feeling to see hundreds of breast cancer survivors and thousands of passionate supporters come together to make a difference.”
