The Orion Amphitheater hosts the opening night of Southern Fried Film Festival on June 9th! This extra-special kick-off event features DJ Chief Rocka from WEUP spinning, and the amazing storytellers: Melissa Ford Thornton, Sam Mitchell, and Sarah Belanger along with host Dorrie Nutt from WLRH’s Sundial Writers Corner sharing their stories – all culminating with the short film SLOW PULSE and the documentary film, FIRE OF LOVE, directed by Sara Dosa.
The Sundance award-winning film tells the story of two French lovers, Katia and Maurice Krafft, who died in a volcanic explosion doing the very thing that brought them together: unraveling the mysteries of our planet, while simultaneously capturing the most explosive volcano imagery ever recorded. Along the way, they changed our understanding of the natural world, and saved tens of thousands of lives. Previously unseen hours of pristine 16-millimeter film and thousands of photographs reveal the birth of modern volcanology through an unlikely lens — the love of its two pioneers.
Southern Fried Film Festival takes place this June 9th – 12th at various locations around Huntsville. For more information and event updates, head to southernfriedfilmfestival.org.Â
